Getting started

How to reach us

Tell us what the door is doing and roughly where you are - that is enough to know whether it is a same-visit fix or something that needs a part ordered first.

  1. Call and tell us what it’s doing

    (510) 229-3319 - describe the symptom and roughly where you are.

  2. Or send it in writing

Use the request form if it’s easier than talking.

  3. We diagnose on site

A technician tests the door under power and by hand before anything is quoted or replaced.

  4. You approve the plan

You hear what failed and what it takes to fix it - the work starts only after that.

Work We Turn Down

We don't touch gates, fences, or commercial roll-up doors on warehouses - our trucks are set up for residential garage doors and that's what we stock parts for. If your door is a custom architectural piece with no standard track width, we'll tell you that up front rather than take the job and guess. We also won't replace a spring on a door with a cracked or rotted panel without saying so first; putting new hardware on a frame that's failing is a waste of your money, and we'd rather lose the job than do that kind of work. Some calls we get are better suited to an electrician - if the issue is a dead outlet or a wiring problem feeding the opener rather than the opener itself, we'll say so instead of charging a service call to find that out. None of this is about being precious about the work. It's that a lot of Oakland's housing dates back to 1938 through the 2000s, median build year 1965, and a door that's original to a 1960s build needs a different kind of attention than a 2005 build with pre-drilled brackets. We'd rather turn down a job we're not set up for than take your money and leave you with the same problem.

What We Are Called Out For

  1. Most calls are springs, openers, and tracks

The three things that fail first on a door that's been in service since the house was built. With housing across the service area running mostly 1960s and 70s stock, a lot of what we see is original torsion hardware that's simply worn out, or a steel track that's been knocked out of alignment over the years.

  2. Oakland doesn't get the hard freezes or heavy snow load that stress hardware in colder climates

The mild temperate band here means we're not called out for ice-jammed tracks - but daily use, humidity near the bay, and age still take their toll on cables, rollers, and the opener's drive gear.

  3. We work the neighborhoods close to our Broadway location first

And out toward and we take calls further out toward Piedmont, San Leandro, Emeryville, and Berkeley as well. If your opener won't respond to the remote, your door won't stay down, or a cable has come off the drum, those are the calls we handle daily.

Straight Answers

Call (510) 229-3319 or come by 1111 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94607. When you call, tell us what the door is doing - won't open, won't close, stuck halfway, making noise - and whether it's a single or double door. That's enough for us to figure out roughly what's involved before anyone drives out. We serve a wide area, from households close to our Broadway address out to places eight to fifteen miles off like Orinda, Castro Valley, and Richmond, and median household income across that service area runs around $148,801, which is worth mentioning only because it tells you we see everything from older original doors to fully replaced systems - not a one-size pricing situation. We don't publish flat repair prices here because what a spring job costs depends on the door, the spring size, and what else is worn. If you want a number, a call gets you a straighter answer than a guess on a page.

Door stuck open or won’t close?

A garage door that won’t close leaves your home open. Tell us what’s happening and we’ll help you figure out the fastest way to get it secured.

Questions

Frequently asked

Straight answers about garage door repair in Oakland. Still unsure? Ask us directly.

Why does my garage door spring keep breaking on an older Oakland house?

A lot of Oakland's housing dates to the 1960s and 70s, and torsion springs from that era have a finite number of cycles. Once a spring is near the end of its life, it can snap suddenly, often on a cold morning. If your house is from that window and the spring's original, it's due regardless of how it looks.

Do you work in areas outside Oakland proper?

We cover the broader service area including places like Piedmont, San Leandro, Emeryville, Berkeley, and Castro Valley, along with the Oakland neighborhoods themselves. If you're unsure whether your address is in range, ask when you call.

Can you match hardware on an older door without replacing the whole thing?

Often, yes. A lot of our work is matching a torsion spring or track section to hardware that's decades old but mechanically sound otherwise. If the door itself is structurally fine, we'd rather fix the failed part than sell you a full replacement.

What if my door needs a part you don't carry on the truck?

It happens, especially on older or unusual setups. We'll tell you on-site if a part needs to be ordered rather than installing something that's close but not right, and we'll give you a straight answer on how long that takes before we leave.
